In some Native American creation stories, the earth formed from dirt placed on turtle’s back. The tortoise-shell effect of the oval topaz beads, paired with round turquoise-green seed beads, represents Mother Earth resting safely on turtle’s shell. The term Turtle Island is also used to reference what is now known as North America.
